June 16, 2011: Menehunes go 12-0 and win the Brea League Champions!
Menehunes do it again! They win another championship with a perfect 12-0 record. Menehunes defeat Old Skool 81 to 67 in the Brea Championship game. Menehunes faced Old Skool the first game of the season and won in overtime by 1point, 84 to 83. So everyone knew that this game was going to be a physical and good game to watch. Menehunes started off slow then really picked it up once Billy Hofman and Ryan Lee started firing on all cylinders out there in the first half. Jimmy Miyasaka came off the bench and also helped with the first half run. Matt Rosser had some highlight plays throughout the game with some tip in dunks! Matt Rosser is Mr. Everything for Menehunes, he does it all. He plays great defense, rebounds, scores, shoots well, plays point at times and makes a few highlight real plays a game. He is the heart and sole to this team and is the Menehunes Franchise player. John Lopez did his part by clogging up the middle on defense and had a nice back door layup late in the second half. Scott Holbert played huge for the Menehunes. He really was the heart and sole to the defense of the Menehunes and dominated the paint. It was nice to see Billy Hofman back on the court and it showed as Menehunes got 81points for the game. Bottom line, Billy gets this team going. But the night belonged to "Big Shot" Ryan Lee, as he hit key 3point shots to stop Old Skool momentum, and helped Menehunes to win another Championship! The Brea League Finals MVP goes to "BIG SHOT" Ryan Lee!

May 26, 2011 Menehunes go undefeated for regular season 7-0
Marc Factora, straight from the Hawaiian Islands.
Menehunes bombed away making 16 3-point shots for the game. Menehunes didnt have there top three leading scores Jarrod Carroll (22ppg), Billy Hofman (21ppg), and Matt Rosser (17ppg), and there center Scott Holbert who grabs 10+ rebounds a game. However Menehunes still managed to put up 85 points for the game lead by Pierre Recinto with a game high 21points. Menehunes were practicing for the Tigers Tournament. Marc Factora, just arrived from Hawaii a few hours prior to the game, made an appearance for the Menehunes while scoring 4 points and had 6 rebounds. Bryant So, Menehunes center made an appearance also. Bryant, a legend in the Brea League knows everyone in that league. Bryant had a solid game also with 4points and 8 rebounds in limited action. Ryan Lee ran point most of the game, while playing great defense and nailed 2-3pointers himself out there. Coach and Photographer Phillip Miyasaka, scored 7points, making an instant impact. Phillip was taking photos for the first 15minutes of the game then subbed in and went to work on the court just as much as he does off the court. Reuben Medina was solid hitting from the outside and battling inside on defense. John Lopez got into the mix by nailing 3-3pointers for the game, while showing the defense that they have to play some defense on him. Jimmy Miyasaka had 16 points, 4-3pointers, was still trying to find his rhythm after coming off of knee surgery. He just isn't the same like before. I think its close to retirement for him. Menehunes open up playoffs next week Thursday, however they have the BIG Tigers Tournament this weekend 28-30. But first a big shout out to Britt Sumida, Jimmy Miyasaka's Girlfriend, as her birthday is on May 27th.

Week 7: Menehunes 63 defeats Nothing to Loose 57 for a 6-0 record. May 19, 2011
The game wasnt pretty, but Menehunes jumped out to a quick lead then came Nothing to Loose to cut it to a 3 point game at the half. Menehunes then went off and got a comfortable 10point lead in the second half, however Nothing to Loose came back and actually took the lead 51 to 48. Jimmy Miyasaka(13points) made a 3 pointer to tie it up, Scott Holbert(11points-14rebounds) followed up a miss shot with a key put back while Jarrod Carroll(Team High 20points) made a big 3point shot on the top of the key and followed that up by a pair of free throws. Matt Rosser put on the final blow with his third dunk of the game to put the Menehunes up by 11 points before, Nothing To Loose made a 3point and a layup to cut it to 6points. Matt Rosser(14points) was putting on a display with his athletic ability. This was Menehunes lowest scoring game. Nothing to Loose had a game plan to walk the ball up every position. However Menehunes adjusted on defense and locked them down late in the second half. Menehunes didnt have the best shooting night but came through at the end when it was needed.

Matt Rosser, who had 17points, was the point guard for the Menehunes and led the way, setting up the Menehunes for 3pointers as well as layups. Scott Holbert, who had 10points, dominated the paint once again and shot perfect from the free throw line going 4 for 4. Scott ended up with a double double(10pts-14rbs). Reuben Medina, who had 20points, was taking it to the basket strong as well as hitting from the outside. Ryan Lee, who had 6points, was also finishing layup after layup as well as setting up everyone for open shots. John Lopez, who had 7points, showed his touch from the outside hitting shots form the top of the key. John also hit the boards hard making a key put back in the second half. G.M. Jimmy Miyasaka, who finished with 26 points, came out hitting a few 3 pointers of his own. "We missed our starting point guard Billy Hofman and we hope he recovers ASAP! Menehunes are not the same without Billy on the court. We also missed our scoring machine Jarrod Carroll. I hope he can make it out to the rest of the games and help us win the Brea League title. We also missed Pierre Recinto who showed his smooth touch from the outside by leading the way with 25 points last game"...G.M. Jimmy M.... Week 5: Menehunes are now 4-0, by defeating "Bring It". May 5, 2011
Another week of basketball! Menehunes are back at it defeating "Bring It' by 48 points. This week Menehunes had there point guard Billy Hofman back in action leading the way with assist after assist, but started off the game with an AIR BALL! but got back to right where he left off in scoring ending up with 14 points. Billy Hofman's girlfriend had a few words about Billy's shot, "Billy's AIR BALL at the beginning of the game was definitely evidence of his 2 week spring break"...Heather Michie... However Pierre Recinto came out on fire! Knocking down shot after shot for the Menehunes, Pierre lead the way with 25points. Reuben Medina was also firing on all cylinders scoring 13 points and Ryan Lee hitting those long bombers who finished with 12points! Scott Holbert had a special someone in the crowd and dominated the paint! He came up huge for Menehunes on the rebounds and inside scoring. Scott had a nice game grabbing more than 10+ rebounds out there while scoring 9 points, going 3 out of 4 from the free throw line.. G.M. Jimmy Miyasaka made his official debut after being out from Knee Surgery and struggled a bit finding his rhythm for his shot. "It is nice to be back out there with my team, but I have to find my rhythm on the court"... Jimmy M... Jimmy ended up with 21 points for the ball gain. But everyone was hitting from behind the arc and showed why Menehunes is a team to reckon with! Menehunes show why they are a top Asian Team in the country!

Week 4: Menehunes 92 defeats Sorry in Advance 52, April 28, 2010
Menehue hit the court again this week. The game started off slow and sloppy, but then once when the Menehunes got going...the rest was history! Menehunes had Virgil Buensuceso aka "J.R." who made his debut for the Ohana and got everyone going. Jarrod Carroll once again lead the way in scoring and the highlight of the night was when Scott Holbert crossed over his defender and went middle and had a two handed tamahawlk dunk on a guy!!! He came back and then SWOOSHED a 3-pointer the very next play!! The Menehunes had there shots going from behind the arc. Ryan Lee was hitting, Reuben Medina was hitting, John Lopez was hitting, and Pierre finally came alive from the floor. But what really got the team going was J.R. who had assist after assist after assist... G.M. Jimmy Miyasaka made his season debut with 3 minutes to go in the first half. Overall The Menehunes played unselfish and it showed on the court. Menehunes advance to 3-0 for league play.

Week: 2 Menehunes win season opener 84 to 83, and are 1-0 in league play! 4-7-2011
What a game! Brea Community Center League really gave it to the Menehunes for there first game, sticking it to them by making them play there top team in there Thursday night leagues. The game was a physical game and Menehunes were out sized. However brains are more important then athletic ability or height. Menehunes proved that on Thursday night. Menehuens pulled off the victory 84 to 83, on Reuben Medina's Free throw with 7 seconds remaining of regulation. Menehunes were lead by Billy Hofman's 26 points. Jarrod Carroll had 23points, Ryan Lee and Reuben Medina both had 9pts, Scott Holbert had 8points, Pierre Recinto had 5points, and team captain Jimmy Miyasaka tailed in with 4points in 0minutes of action! Menehunes played a tough game and didnt back down to anything. The game got heated when a player throw an elbow at Scott's head after the play was over. But the reffs took care of them and Menehunes just continued to play on. Scott Holbert came out with an important steal that lead to Reuben's winning free throw. Menehunes were short on players. They were missing center John Lopez, due to food poisoning, and Matt Rosser due to a working schedule conflict. But Menehunes dug deep with there 6 and 1/2(Jimmy) man roster. Coach Jimmy came up huge with those 4 points from the line. Reuben Medina came up huge grabbing boards and playing down low. Ryan Lee "Mr. Do It All" played ever where tonight, grabbing rebounds, making put backs, setting up his teammates, steals, you name it, he did it! Jarrod Carroll played well despite the foul trouble and hit some huge shots down the stretch for the Menehunes. Pierre came up big by hitting a 3pter to give the Menehunes some momentum in the second half. And Big Scott (Chris Minns) came up huge. Using all of his fouls to dominate the paint! He even took a charge! But at the end of the day Billy Hofman was the Menehunes Heart and sole. He lead the team the whole game and came up big by hitting 5-3pters for the game and he, so rarely, made a POST move tonight! Got Coach Jimmy off his feet!! Menehunes are excited about this season and team. Look out for us next Thursday at 8:20pm. Please check out the schedule, Click here
Evaluation Week 1: Strong debut for Menehunes in the Brea Community Center league: Menehunes win 74-42, March 31, 2011
Menehunes started off slow but turned things on. This game was just an evaluation game for a new league/season. Menehunes were a little short on players but ended up with 6 players. Billy Hofman, Jarrod Carroll, Pierre Recinto, John Lopez(New Player), Scott Holbert, and Richy Miyasaka suited up for Menehunes. Menehunes were lead by Billy Hofman. Billy once again ran the show, while Jarrod Carroll made some spectacular finishes. The first half was slow and the score was tied up at 33-33 at the half. But then the Menehunes turned it on with John Lopez and Pierre Recinto smooth shooting from the outside. Scott dominated the paint once again, while even Richy made a layup. He did have some air-ball assists but either way he was good sport about it and played on. Britt Sumida and Yolanda Torres was in attendance with Jarrod Carroll little niece who was her water girl. The Menehunes did turn it on and ended up winning 74 to 42. I am pretty sure that the league will move Menehunes into a higher division.
Next week we are waiting for Matt Rosser to make his Menehune Debut for this season. Hopefully Ryan Lee can get out of work on time and Reuben recovers from an ankle injury. Coach/G.M. Jimmy Miyasaka needs another month to rehab his knee before he can get back to action with the Menehunes. But you will see him on the side line coaching the team.
